PATRICIA SMITH NAMED CO-WINNER OF THE 2007 PATERSON POETRY PRIZE FOR TEAHOUSE OF THE ALMIGHTY
Yeah that's right. I have a workshop with her, too. Nyeh!
For those who don't know, The Poetry Center is a fairly well-known little literary institution up here in the New York Metro area, in Paterson, NJ (my hometown). Passaic County Community College, which houses the center, is one of the schools whose doorways I darkened while searching for deeper meaning in a retail sales job.
The full list of winners and finalists is RIGHT HERE. Dang, she even beat out Kwame. Aight, now.
The other winner was Christopher Bursk, who I'm sure is all kinds of fly as well. The book is called The First Inhabitants of Arcadia.
P.S. For those inquiring minds wanting to know who won the Allen Ginsburg Awards...including certain vested interests on this blog...well, we just don't know yet. ;-) The site says: "To Be Announced."

BNN BREAKING NEWS
Rich Villar is the author of the poetry collection Comprehending Forever (Willow Books, 2014). He directs Acentos, an organization fostering audiences and community around Latino/a literature, and he has been quoted on Latino literature and culture by The New York Times and the Daily News.
